Configured for data link termination in Yokogawa CENTUM VP and ProSafe-RS networks, the YOKOGAWA ACM11-S2 (ACM11 Communication Module) provides direct physical/electrical execution of serial and fieldbus packet forwarding between controller nodes and upper-layer hosts.

FOUNDATION Fieldbus and 4-20 mA HART Loop Connectivity

The ACM11-S2 forwards process variable frames from FOUNDATION Fieldbus H1 segments and 4-20 mA HART loop instruments into the CENTUM VP control database without protocol translation middleware. Channel-to-channel isolation is rated at 500 VAC rms for 1 minute. Cold junction compensation is not executed on this module; analog signal conditioning remains delegated to the attached I/O card. Backplane current draw stays under 120 mA at 24 VDC, allowing co-installation with analog input cards on the same baseplate without exceeding the 2 A per-node budget.

Q: Does the ACM11-S2 support hot-swap while the controller node is online?

A: No. The module must be inserted or removed only after the host node power is cycled or the node is placed in maintenance mode. Backplane arbitration does not re-enumerate the module otherwise.

Q: What is the firmware flash compatibility boundary for ACM11-S2?

A: Firmware revisions AA and AB run on CENTUM VP R5.04 and later. Loading R6.x firmware onto an AB-tag module will lock the bootloader; recovery requires a YOKOGAWA service flash tool.

Q: Can two ACM11-S2 modules operate in redundant pairs on one control node?

A: Yes. Dual modules occupy adjacent slots and switch over in 80 ms. The standby module mirrors the active ARP table but does not pre-open socket connections to the host.

Field Installation Guidelines

Mount the module on a grounded 35 mm DIN rail or directly to the panel plate using M3.5 screws torqued to 0.5 Nm. Keep serial cable trays separated from 24 VDC power trunks by at least 150 mm to suppress common-mode noise. Shield drain wires on the RS-485 side must terminate once at the DIN rail clamp, never at both ends. When stacking with analog input cards, leave one empty slot between the communication module and the first AI card to preserve convection clearance. Tighten the backplane connector screw to 0.25 Nm; overtorque cracks the polycarbonate header.
