Eddy-Current Probe Scaling and Machinery Signal Processing
The 990 Vibration Transmitter integrates the Proximitor Sensor function and directly interfaces with a 3300 NSv eddy-current proximity probe and extension cable. Therefore, the unit eliminates the requirement for a separate external proximity sensor module.
The transmitter processes dynamic vibration and gap voltage signals from the probe system. In addition, the PROX OUT and COM terminals provide non-isolated diagnostic outputs through a coaxial connection interface.
The eddy-current measurement circuit maintains probe scaling characteristics for converting displacement signals into proportional current output. Furthermore, the integrated Not OK/Signal Defeat circuit prevents excessive output conditions caused by defective probes or unstable field connections.
The Test Input pin allows loop signal verification by applying a function generator input. This function supports field diagnostics without removing the transmitter from the control loop.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does the 990-05-XX-01-05 require an external Proximitor Sensor module?
A: No. The transmitter contains an integrated Proximitor Sensor circuit and accepts direct connection from one 3300 NSv proximity probe with extension cable.
Q: What vibration signal output does the transmitter provide?
A: The unit converts proximity probe vibration measurements into a proportional 4-20 mA loop current output for machinery control system input.
Q: How does the transmitter handle probe faults?
A: The internal Not OK/Signal Defeat circuit limits abnormal output conditions caused by faulty probes or loose electrical connections.
Field Installation Guidelines
Install the transmitter on a suitable 35 mm DIN rail using the supplied mounting clips. Verify that the supply voltage remains within the specified +12 to +35 VDC input range before connecting field wiring.
Connect the 3300 NSv proximity probe and extension cable according to the required signal polarity and shielding practice. Maintain separation between probe wiring and high-current power cables to reduce electrical interference.
Ground cable shields according to the machinery monitoring system grounding design. Avoid multiple shield grounding points that may introduce ground loops into the vibration measurement circuit.
Before commissioning, verify the probe gap voltage and loop current response. Use the Test Input function with an appropriate signal source when performing control loop validation.
