Product Description

Configured for absolute casing vibration measurement in Bently Nevada machinery protection and condition monitoring installations, the Bently Nevada 330525-00 (330525 Velomitor XA Piezo-Velocity Sensor) provides direct physical/electrical execution. A piezoelectric element drives an internal converter, and the converter delivers a velocity-proportional signal at 3.94 mV/mm/s (100 mV/in/s) into a constant-current input. Therefore, the sensor feeds bearing-housing velocity directly to the monitor, and it requires no external charge amplifier.

Cross-Talk Suppression and Gap Voltage Validation

The 330525-00 measures absolute casing velocity, and the monitor compares that trace against shaft-relative data from eddy-current proximity probes. Therefore, technicians scale each proximity channel in the monitor and validate the probe gap at -10 VDC before they trend any baseline. A drifted gap clips the proximity waveform, and clipping corrupts the phase reference used for rotor dynamics analysis.

In addition, transverse sensitivity stays below 5% of the axial sensitivity, so the element rejects motion acting perpendicular to its measuring axis. Consequently, mount paired sensors on mutually perpendicular axes and torque each stud to the 45 N-m (33 ft-lb) limit. Moreover, route the sensor cable apart from high-current conductors; parallel runs inject 50/60 Hz hum into the constant-current loop and lift the noise floor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What supply does the 330525-00 require, and how do I verify it?

A: The sensor runs from a constant-current source at -22 to -30 VDC with 2.5 to 6.0 mA of bias. Measure the DC bias at the monitor input first, and then confirm that the supply holds compliance voltage at the cable length in use. Therefore, a supply that collapses below -22 VDC limits the available signal swing.

Q: How far can I trust the reading across the velocity range?

A: Amplitude linearity holds within +/-2% up to 152 mm/s (6 in/s) peak. Above that point, the sensor still tracks motion to the 1270 mm/s (50 in/s) peak mechanical range, but the tolerance widens. Consequently, keep trending and alarm comparison inside the +/-2% band.

Q: Can a technician unplug the sensor while the monitor stays energized?

A: Breaking the loop removes bias, and the monitor reports a transducer fault. Therefore, place the channel in bypass before you open the connection, and restore shielding continuity before you return the channel to service.

Q: Does mounting torque change the calibration?

A: The mechanical limit is 45 N-m (33 ft-lb) maximum, and the factory sets sensitivity at 3.94 mV/mm/s +/-5%. Torque the stud to the specified limit and stop; exceeding it distorts the base and shifts the coupling.

Field Installation Guidelines

  1. Machine the mounting pad flat and clean it, and then engage the stud by hand to confirm the thread pitch before you apply any torque.
  2. Turn the sensor onto the stud and tighten it in stages; stop at 45 N-m (33 ft-lb). Do not exceed this limit, because overtightening stresses the housing.
  3. Confirm conduit and fitting engagement at a minimum of five full threads on NPT connections, and apply approved thread sealant on the male threads only.
  4. Terminate the cable shield drain wire at one point only, at the monitor earth; leave the sensor end floating. Therefore, you avoid ground-loop current in the shield.
  5. Separate the sensor cable from variable-frequency drive output, motor power, and 400 V bus runs by physical distance and by metal barriers where trays are shared.
  6. Support the cable at regular intervals and strain-relieve the final bend at the sensor, and then leave a service loop so a technician can remove the sensor without pulling the conduit.
  7. Energize the loop, measure the DC bias, and verify that it lands between -22 and -30 VDC at 2.5 to 6.0 mA before you release the point to operation.
