Eddy-Current Probe Scaling and Gap Voltage Validation

The 330102 series follows linear eddy-current scaling of 7.87 mV/um (200 mV/mil) across the calibrated range when driven by a 3300 XL Proximitor. Gap voltage must be validated at static shaft center position with a target value of -10 VDC at the Proximitor output for an 8 mm probe against a 42 mm plain carbon steel target. Rotor dynamics data derived from this probe supports both 1X radial orbit reconstruction and thrust collar axial excursion tracking. Cross-talk suppression is maintained by routing the coaxial cable with minimum 150 mm separation from power conductors and grounding the armor braid at the Proximitor end only.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can the 330102-08-96-10-02-00 be hot-swapped while the machine is running?

A: No. The probe and cable assembly must be installed and gap-validated offline. Swapping the probe body changes the eddy-current bridge condition and forces recalibration of the Proximitor gap voltage before returning the channel to service.

Q: Does the 3/8-24 UNF thread require a specific torque value during installation?

A: Yes. The locknut must be tightened to 8.5 N.m (75 lbf.in) typical using a Bently Nevada probe mounting nut wrench. Under-torque causes probe walkout under vibration; over-torque strips the 3/8-24 UNF thread on the probe body.

Q: Is the 1.0 m total length inclusive of the unthreaded and case lengths?

A: No. The 1.0 m total length covers the full probe plus integral cable from tip to ClickLoc connector. The 0.8 in unthreaded length and 9.6 in case length are physical probe-body dimensions exclusive of cable extension.

Field Installation Guidelines

Mount the probe perpendicular to the shaft surface with the tip flush or at the calibrated standoff gap defined by the Proximitor range. Engage a minimum of 5 full threads of the 3/8-24 UNF locknut into the machine bracket. Do not rotate the probe by the cable; always hold the hex body. Ground the armored cable braid at the Proximitor enclosure via the DIN-rail or panel ground bus. Keep the ClickLoc connector unmated until final gap voltage check is performed. Verify probe resistance (tip to case) is open and center conductor to shield is within 7.0 to 9.0 ohm for a 1.0 m assembly before system power-up.
