Product Description

The DS200EXDEG1A is a De-Excitation Control Board manufactured by General Electric for the EX200 excitation control series. Furthermore, its capacitor storage circuit maintains sufficient DC voltage to trigger the SCR when external power is removed.

Functional Description

The DS200EXDEG1A serves as the main printed circuit board in the De-Excitation Module. This module removes stored energy from the generator field when the field breaker or contactors open during a normal or emergency shutdown.

The module also limits the voltage across the generator field and reduces the energy dissipated in the switching contactors. It works with a conduction sensor board, a steel flux-concentrating core, an SCR rated for either 53 mm or 77 mm configurations, and a sheet-metal mounting base.

The DS200EXDEG1A contains thyristor and gate-control logic for triggering the SCR. The board can initiate firing through either of two control inputs or when the SCR anode-to-cathode voltage exceeds its breakover threshold.

Each SCR requires an EXDE board for firing control. However, engineers can configure multiple boards to trigger parallel SCRs with synchronized firing pulses.

Control Circuits and Signal Connections

The board provides two separate firing control circuits, designated Control Circuit 1 and Control Circuit 2. Each circuit has three associated terminal boards for control connections.

The firing pulse uses a 24 VDC signal applied across the designated terminal pairs:

• Control Circuit 1: Apply 24 VDC between 1TB-2 and 1TB-1.
• Control Circuit 2: Apply 24 VDC between 4TB-2 and 4TB-1.

A pulse transformer delivers the resulting firing signal to the SCR. Meanwhile, Berg jumpers isolate the pulse transformers of Control Circuits 1 and 2 from the SCR circuit, according to the board configuration.

Power Supply and Stored Energy

Several large capacitors on the DS200EXDEG1A maintain the DC voltage required by the firing circuits. Therefore, the board can generate an SCR firing pulse even after the external power supply has been removed. This stored-energy function supports the de-excitation sequence during power interruption.
