Product Description
The Bently Nevada 330500-01-05, based on the 330500 Velomitor piezo-velocity sensor family, measures absolute vibration velocity at machinery casings, bearing housings, and structural surfaces. Its piezoelectric sensing element converts mechanical vibration into an electrical output for a compatible vibration-monitoring channel. The sensor has a solid-state construction without moving parts and supports installation in different orientations, subject to the specified mounting conditions.

Vibration Signal Characteristics and TSI Integration
The 330500 sensor measures absolute casing vibration velocity rather than shaft displacement relative to a probe mounting reference. Its piezoelectric sensing element generates an electrical signal proportional to vibration velocity within the specified frequency response and measurement range.
For machinery protection and condition monitoring, the receiving channel must match the sensor's sensitivity, output bias, input impedance, and signal conditioning requirements. The specified output bias of -12 +/-3 VDC should be checked against the applicable monitoring system documentation.
Unlike an eddy-current proximity probe, this sensor does not provide a shaft-relative displacement signal or an eddy-current probe gap-voltage measurement. Therefore, its output must not be interpreted using proximity-probe scaling or gap-voltage acceptance criteria.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can the 330500-01-05 measure shaft displacement directly?
A: No. It measures absolute vibration velocity at the mounting surface. Shaft-relative displacement requires a suitable displacement measurement system.
Q: What electrical characteristics must the monitoring channel support?
A: Verify compatibility with the nominal sensitivity of 3.94 mV per mm/s, the -12 +/-3 VDC output bias, and the specified dynamic output impedance of less than 2400 ohm.
Q: Can the sensor be installed in any orientation?
A: The solid-state design permits different mounting orientations. However, the mounting surface, adapter, mechanical coupling, and installation method must suit the measurement location.
Field Installation Guidelines
- Confirm the complete model number, connector configuration, mounting adapter, and applicable equipment documentation before installation.
- Prepare a rigid, clean mounting surface. Loose mounting hardware or a compliant interface can alter the measured vibration response.
- Verify that the mounting thread and adapter match the installed hardware. Do not force incompatible threads.
- Connect the two-pin hermetic MIL-C-5015 connector using the specified mating connector and termination procedure.
- Route the sensor cable away from high-current conductors, switching devices, and sources of mechanical damage. Follow the monitoring system manufacturer's shielding and grounding instructions.
- Before connecting the sensor to the monitoring channel, verify input compatibility with the specified sensitivity, output bias, and electrical impedance.
- After installation, check the signal baseline and vibration response under known operating conditions. Investigate abnormal readings before using the signal for machinery protection decisions.
