Die busverbindingsmodule RER 103 dien as 'n koppelvlak-eenheid tussen 'n RE_ 500-toestel en die veseloptiese SPA, LON® en IEC 60870-5-103 bus. Die busverbindingsmodule omskakel inkomende optiese seine van die SPA, LON® en IEC_103 bus na elektriese RS-485 seine vir die RE_ 500-toestelle en andersom. Die module word in die RS-485 D-tipe subminiatuurkoppelvlak op die agterplaat van die RE_500-toestel ingeprop. Dit kan saam met enige RE_500-toestel gebruik word wat voorsien is van 'n 9-pen D-tipe koppelvlak. Die busverbindingsmodule word van die D-tipe koppelvlak van die RE_500-toestel van krag voorsien.
